JEWELLERY CARE & SAFETY

Stones such as Emeralds and Opal need to be handled with care due to their relatively fragile nature. For advice on cleaning specific Gemstones, please email or call us for instructions.

Never use any harsh detergents such as Bleach, or Toothpaste; these will damage the metal. Remember to always put the plug in the sink! Or use a bowl.

Precious metals can scratch and wear fairly easily and it is important to keep this in mind when performing certain tasks around the home, at work and at play. Worn Settings, Claws and Clasps can result in the loss of a stone or an entire piece. Avoid contact with hard and abrasive surfaces. Even a Diamond can be chipped if hit hard enough or at the right angle.

It is a good idea to get in the habit of taking your jewellery off at these times, not only to minimize wear and tear, but also to avoid injury from jewellery getting caught during rigorous physical activity. Avoid exposing your jewellery to household bleach as this will cause Gold to disintegrate and discolour.

Regularly examine your jewellery to ensure settings are tight and clasps are secure. Claw settings are particularly vulnerable and if hit against a hard surface or snagged on clothing can loosen, risking the loss of a Gemstone.

DIAMOND CLEANING - AN UNCLEAN DIAMOND LOOKS DULL AND LIFELESS

Diamonds are the hardest substance known to man, but one diamond will scratch another. So, to avoid damage or tangling, it is important that jewellery not be stored together.

Diamonds have a great attraction to oils, and even a finger print will dull its surface.

Regular cleaning makes the process quick and easy. A simple regular wash in warm water with a little mild soap such as Dishwashing liquid or Liquid Hand soap is all you need.

If a more serious clean is needed:
Soak in a mixture of warm water, liquid soap & cloudy ammonia. A soft child's toothbrush is ideal to remove stubborn dirt trapped within the setting, remember to focus particularly on the underside of the stone where the majority of the dirt gets trapped.

SWIMMING POOLS

Pools containing Chlorine will damage Precious Metals and cause them to deteriorate rapidly.

Do not swim in Chlorinated pools with your jewellery. Regular exposure to Chlorine will cause Stones to become loose from their settings and fall out and Gold to become pitted.

If in doubt: Please feel free to email or call us if you have any questions or concerns.
